When it’s time for baby to play, some parents can either get too involved or too out of touch. Here are some things to remember to make your baby’s playtime all worthwhile.

  1. Make sure that your baby has already eaten and has had enough rest before you allow him to play.
  2. Start with stimulating activities before you move on to more relaxed ones.
  3. Let your baby figure things out by himself. In case he gets frustrated or gives up on what he is doing, then that’s the only time you ca n interfere. This way, you are letting the baby develop his problem solving skills. This also goes when he is just learning to walk. Do not come hurrying about just because he cannot stand himself up.
  4. Do not force your baby to play. Let them develop their own play habits and schedules.
  5. Get down on the floor with them. This is your chance to form a bond with your baby. Keep in mind also that your baby would love it if he or she has your attention.
  6. Try showing your baby books with lots of pictures. Point to these pictures and name them. Let your baby do the page-turning.

Keep in mind that playtime is your baby’s chance to develop his social, intellectual and problem-solving skills. Educational toys such as the Baby Einstein Playtime Wagon of Simply Unique Baby Gifts can help stimulate your child’s brain.

baby-boy-crib-beddingNew parents can get quite giddy when setting up their baby’s nursery room. In their overflowing happiness, it is normal to miss a few important details.

Here are some tips to make sure that your baby’s nursery room is a safe haven for him:

  1. Make sure that you select the right room. It should be a place that is in close proximity to your room. This ensures that, should your baby cry, you can easily reach him or her.
  2. The first thing that your nursery should have is a crib. This is where your baby would spend most of his time especially during the first few years of his life. Make sure that the bars are not far apart to ensure that your baby will not fall through. It is also a good idea to buy one that has railers that can be lowered down if you need to pick up your baby.
  3. Use baby-friendly furniture. Baby-friendly furnitures are those that do not have shard edges or small parts that come off.  If you need to buy dressers that have sharp edges, you need to place rubber strips. This protects your baby from hurting himself when he runs into these furnitures.
  4. Use soft lights in your baby’s room. This can induce sleep in them.
  5. Keep a sufficient supply of diapers, powder, tissue as well as linen and baby clothes. This would keep you from running in out of the room when you need to change your baby’s diapers, clothes or crib linen.

You can also have a specific theme for your nursery. You can have your nursery in all-white or a combination of pink and brown. One of the ways to get your desired effect is to play around with the color of the curtains as well as the crib beddings. You can find some of the most exquisite crib bedding designs such as butterflies, yacht club, blossoms, buzzing bee, and football at Simply Unique Baby Gifts.

Baby’s first bath is one of those experiences that a new mom and dad cannot forget. Here are some handy tips to make your baby’s first bath a sweet memory:

1. Set a specific time when you would want to have your baby’s first bath. It would be a good idea to ensure that both you and your husband would be present.

2. Prepare all the things that you would be needing for baby’s first bath. This would include the towels, washcloths, alcohol pads, diaper and baby clothes. You actually don’t need to have a baby soap or shampoo with you at this time. Remember, your baby do not sweat much, not yet at least. Soaps and shampoo could only irritate his or her skin.

baby-towel3. Make sure that you use lukewarm water, not hot water. You can also have a few inches of water only. At this point in time, there’s no need for you to fill the whole tub with water. Sponge bath is highly recommended until such time that your baby’s umbilical cord stump has fallen off or your son’s circumcision scars have healed.

4. Newborn babies usually lose body heat through their head fast so you might want to clean this part last. Make sure that you have a ready hooded towel to dry your baby.

5. Never leave your baby alone in the tub. Remember, they do not have the reflexes yet to pull up themselves. If you need to take a call or have forgotten something, wrap your baby in a dry towel and bring him or her with you.

Make sure you cover your baby’s head properly when you have finished giving him a bath. You can wrap them up first with Simply Unique Baby Gifts’ Blue Puppy or Pink Character Hooded Baby towels and mitts.

New parents are bound to “complain” about one thing – not enough sleep. You would hear most parents with newborn babies tell you about how much they lack sleep.

personalized-baby-blanketHere is a handy new baby checklist that can help you and your baby get some goodnight sleep:

1. Nothing beats giving your baby a warm bath before bed time. Just as a warm bath relaxes an adult, so can it relax a baby.

2. Massage or rock your baby to sleep while humming a soft lullaby. The soft, vibrating sound of your hum can actually lull your baby to sleep since it reminds them of the feeling that they have when they were still in your womb.

3. Make your baby lie on his or her back while wrapped in swaddling clothes. This gives them the sensation of being held. Although it is tempting to let your baby lie on her side, this could be quite dangerous and could lead to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS)

4. Make sure that your baby has been fed before you put them to sleep. A hungry baby will most likely wake up in the middle of the night and cry for milk.

5. Do not overtire your baby as this makes it harder for them to go to sleep. During the first few months, you need to work around the baby’s schedule and be sensitive to whether they are already sleepy or not.

If all else fails, you can always go for a personalized baby blanket from Simply Unique Baby Gifts. It already comes with a pacifier that could keep your bundle of joy fall into a deep sleep.

These newborn baby checklist is applicable during the first few months. By the second month, you should already start developing a sleeping pattern for your baby.
