baby clothesExpecting a baby can be an exciting experience so much so that you would often find yourself indulgin in some shopping spree for your baby’s clothes. Here are some tips on how to choose the right clothes for your little one:

  1. Make sure that you have a layette as well as newborn baby clothes. This would include a onesie as well as a receiving blanket.
  2. Since babies tend to grow quickly, make sure that you buy only a few clothes per growth stage. One way you can save money over clothes that your baby could easily outgrow is to get bargain items.
  3. Daytime clothes should be different from night time clothes. Since babies do not have yet the capacity to adapt to changing temperature as adults can, you have to make sure that they are bundled up snugly during night time when the temperature tends to be cold.
  4. Go for onesies over two-piece clothes. Onesies keep your baby’s tummy comfortable especially if they still have their umbilical cord stump. Snap crotches in onesies also allow for easy changing of diapers.
  5. Take into consideration the clothing material. It is advisable to go for 100% cotton over synthetic material. Synthetic fabric usually cannot absorb sweat or water well which can lead to rashes and irritation.

Simply Unique Baby Gifts offer some of the most comfortable baby clothes that you can imagine. You can even have them personalized as well as delivered to your doorsteps for free.

  3. It is advisable to work your travel schedule around your baby’s nap time. That way, your attention would not be divided between driving the car and making sure that your baby stops crying.
  4. Bring along toys with you to keep your baby occupied. It is best if you ould bring someone with you who can play with the baby while you do the driving.
  5. You might also want to bring along with you a light stroller so that you won’t have a hard time moving baby about.

As a new mo and dad, one of the problems that you would encounter is how to stop your baby from crying. The following checklist provides some tips on how to soothe your baby if he continues on crying even after you have fed him or changed his diapers.

  1. Carry your baby and rock him or her in your arms. A variation on this could be holding your baby while sitting in a rocking chair. You can also let your baby lie on your thighs with his or her head safely cradled on your knees. This way, you are able to establish eye contact with your baby.
  2. baby blanketTalk to your baby or coo or make soft gurgling sounds. You do not have to worry about looking like a crazy person since you can do this while holding your baby. This lets your baby feel secure.
  3. As much as possible, do not shake or jiggle your baby. This causes Shake Baby Syndrome and could lead to a number of brain problems.
  4. Some babies cry because of over-stimulation which could be from light or noise. What you can do is move your baby to a quieter and darker room.
  5. Wrap him up like a burrito, but not too tightly. Some babies tend to be fussy because of an unsecure feeling. Remember that your baby is used to being in a warm, small environment and the sudden change in their space can be a big stress.

Simply Unique Baby Gifts has a good line of baby blankets that you can use to wrap your baby.

bib and burp clothAs a new parent, one of the things that you need to put down on your newborn baby checklist is how to burp your baby. Burping is the natural way by which we release gas from our body. Since babies do not have full control of their muscles yet, they would need your help in releasing gas trapped in their stomach. Here are some tips on how you should do it:

  1. One of the common ways by which you can burp a baby is by placing your baby over your shoulder and gently patting his back. You have to make sure, however, that his upper body lies against your collar bone.
  2. You can also burp your baby by letting him sit on your lap, leaning him forward slightly and then gently patting his back. In order to make this work, the heel of your hand should be placed directly under his or her rib cage. You would also need to apply light pressure.
  3. A variation of the above method calls for you to bend your baby a little bit more forward and the slowly rotating his body while rubbing his back much like how you would do a stretching exercise. However, you might want to use this only if your baby can already hold his or her own head.
  4. You can also try having your baby lie belly down on your lap. Rub small circles on his back using the heel of your hand or gently pat them. This is particularly handy for colicky babies.
  5. Some babies respond well to a change in position. If your baby finds it hard to burp using the above method, you can try shifting them from one position to another.

Since burping your baby can cause accidental “spills”, make sure that you have a burp cloth ready at all times. Simply Unique Baby Gifts has a good burp cloth line up.

baby-bjorn-carriersIf there’s one thing that you need to prepare for after giving birth, it’s the fact that you might do a lot of traveling with your baby especially if your in-laws, friends and relatives live very far from you. They would, of course, want to see your baby too. Here are some tips to make travel time less stressful:

  1. As much as possible, limit your bags to one or two. Keep in mind that you only have two hands and, aside from carrying your luggage, you would also need to take care of your baby.
  2. Do not forget to take a bjorn or a stroller with you. You would be doing a lot of walking around in the airport so you better have something that would help you carry the baby easily.
  3. Bring along with you extra diapers and formula. You never know when an “accident” could happen.
  4. During take off and landing, give your baby a pacifier. This would help even out the pressure on their ears during the landing and taking off.
  5. Bundle your baby accordingly. Traveling via airplane would mean that your baby should have layers of cloth. If you are heading to a tropical area, you would need to remove the extra clothes.

You can keep all your diapers and formula in one place with the help of Simply Unique Baby Gifts’ Diaper Bags. Choose from messenger bags, bowling bags and tote bags.

So, pregnancy test came back as positive? You might probably be very excited right now that you are not sure which items you need to start buying in preparation for the little one. One of the things that you would need to prepare is your baby’s crib. Here are some tips on selecting the right one:

  1. Go for sturdier ones. As your baby grows older, he would kick, wiggle and climb more often. Any of these actions could tip the crib over if it is not made of sturdy materials.
  2. crib beddingMake sure that the railings are not more than 2 3/8 inches apart otherwise, your baby might wedge his head in between. Wide spaces between railings can also cause your baby to crawl through and fall.
  3. Place snug-fitting mattresses and bumper pads.  They should be tied into place. Cut off any excess ribbons or ties so that your baby would not get all tangled up.
  4. If you’re planning on moving the crib around most of the time, go for those that have wheels n them. Make sure, however, that it also has a locking mechanism to prevent the crib from rolling on its own every time your baby moves.
  5. Choose a crib that allows you to lower the sides whenever you need to pick your baby up. This should also come with a lock so that your baby would not accidentally push it down.

Simply Unique Baby Gifts features some wonderful crib bedding sets that you can use for your newly bought baby crib.

Although breast milk would be able to provide everything that your new born baby would need, come 4 months of age, you would notice that your baby would start showing interest for solid food. He might try reaching out for food that is on your plate and might attempt to put things into his mouth. Here are some tips on how to handle your baby’s cravings:

The first thing that you need to do is to ready yourself with the fact that half of the food you would offer to your baby would most likely end up on the floor or on your baby’s bib and chin. There’s no need to fret about this as your baby still has to get used to how food tastes and feels.

You can start with letting your baby eat cereal from a spoon. Make sure, however, that you do not give them hot as this could hurt your baby’s tongue and might not help him be more confident in transitioning from milk to solid food.

Avoid foods that have high tendencies to be allergens. When feeding your baby, make sure you watch his body’s reaction. If you notice rashes, diarrhea, too much passing of gas or belching and fussiness after eating, get in touch with your pediatrician as this could already be signs of allergy.

bib and burp clothIf your baby seems to avoid certain food, don’t force them to eat it. You can, however, try to offer the same type of food at a later time when he is less fussy.

When your baby reaches 9 months of age, you can start giving him or her solid chunks of food. Make sure, however, that you cut the food into bite sizes to prevent possible choking.

At all times, make sure that you have your bib and burp cloths with you. If you haven’t picked one yet for your baby, you can try the ones at Simply Unique Baby Gifts.
