One of the most common problems that most first-time parents, most specifically first-time moms, encounter is that of their baby not getting enough milk. In truth, it is rarely about the mother not having enough milk. Here are some tips to ensure that your baby gets the right amount of milk that he or she needs:
- Make sure that your baby is latching on correctly. One of the reasons why your baby is not getting the right amount of milk is that they cannot latch on to your nipple.
- Have your baby switch breasts from time to time especially when he is no longer drinking your milk even with compression.
- Learn to read cues from your baby. This applies not only to his hunger cues but also to his body language when he is getting enough milk and when he needs more. Babies who take longer pauses in between sucking are most likely getting enough milk.
- Get plenty of rest and eat the right kind of food. Do not forget to drink lots of water. Oftentimes, moms cannot produce enough milk because they themselves are dehydrated or are too tired or stressed out. If you are too tired to hold your baby while breast feeding, look for a comfortable position that would have you lying down while you are breastfeeding the little one.

- Letting your baby breastfeed regularly stimulates your breast’s milk production so instead of stopping when you see the little one not getting enough milk, you should encourage him or her to take your nipple more.
