Baby’s first bath is one of those experiences that a new mom and dad cannot forget. Here are some handy tips to make your baby’s first bath a sweet memory:
1. Set a specific time when you would want to have your baby’s first bath. It would be a good idea to ensure that both you and your husband would be present.
2. Prepare all the things that you would be needing for baby’s first bath. This would include the towels, washcloths, alcohol pads, diaper and baby clothes. You actually don’t need to have a baby soap or shampoo with you at this time. Remember, your baby do not sweat much, not yet at least. Soaps and shampoo could only irritate his or her skin.
3. Make sure that you use lukewarm water, not hot water. You can also have a few inches of water only. At this point in time, there’s no need for you to fill the whole tub with water. Sponge bath is highly recommended until such time that your baby’s umbilical cord stump has fallen off or your son’s circumcision scars have healed.
4. Newborn babies usually lose body heat through their head fast so you might want to clean this part last. Make sure that you have a ready hooded towel to dry your baby.
5. Never leave your baby alone in the tub. Remember, they do not have the reflexes yet to pull up themselves. If you need to take a call or have forgotten something, wrap your baby in a dry towel and bring him or her with you.
Make sure you cover your baby’s head properly when you have finished giving him a bath. You can wrap them up first with Simply Unique Baby Gifts’ Blue Puppy or Pink Character Hooded Baby towels and mitts.
